Maybe I'm Just Old Fashioned......

........... People that rush into relationships really scare me! (when it involves me) Whatever happened to the days where people just liked you. You go out, eat ice cream, laugh, hangout, go to the movies, or whatever it is that's fun to you. Nowadays, people just meet you, want to marry you, make you theirs, befriend your friends, and try to make you something in their life that you completely are not! At least not yet. Hell they don't give you a chance to see if that's what you really want. I'm just a boy who wants to have fun. Not fun as in, I want to have sex, and play around. Fun as in, I want to go out. Take walks. Talk. Get to know each other. Fall in love the right way. All this, "you're my babe," "you're my boo," "you're mines," "I love you," after one meeting or two does not work for me. It's unattractive, and I hate it! I guess at the end of the day, "I'm old fashioned." But he has to be too!!!

I think that's a wonderful mentality to have, and I respect and admire you for adhering to it. You're absolutely right...people don't know how to "date" these days.

I agree with you. But I used to be one of those "meet you today, you my boo tomorrow" types. That was back when I was really young. I think the major problem is that as black gay men we are really never taught how to date. Most of the have no role models that we can turn to, other than porn or loose characterizations such as Noah's Arc. Part of my issue back then was I was seeking someone to give me what I was not giving myself - love. Just my 2 cents (5 cents for inflation) worth.

That's not old fashioned. That's called common sense. Rushing to be with someone is rushing to end it. And then in the process you're bitter for no reason, lost your friends to this new person, and have a lot of unnecessary drama. And the pet names: baby, baby, boo, love, amor, whatever...Cut that shit out! I agree with you. Too much too soon.

You definitely have a point D. I miss the days of getting to know someone so you can really find out just how nutz they really are before you even think of being with them.

speaking hypothetically said...
